March 10 Update...

Dear Parents,

Sorry about the delay in updating the blog. I thought I'd be able to work on it while I was watching the talent show children in the Media Center on Friday. NOT!!  Boy, were they excited!  I hope you were able to attend the Talent Show. It was so entertaining. Check out below to see what we did in class last week...

Phonics/Grammar:  We learned our new spelling pattern (long and short u and ur, ure, and ur_e spelling patterns).  We continued our emphasis on the use of apostrophes in contractions and possessive nouns.

Reading:  We began our new chapter book, Ribsy.  We worked one on one with our teachers to take the Developmental Reading Assessment.  The updated scores will be indicated on your child's report card which comes home next week.

Writing:  We wrote an opinion paper on James and the Giant Peach,  telling why we think this book deserves a reading award.

Math:  We  completed our measurement unit for the third nine weeks and began practicing our math fact fluency with facts to 20.  Please work on math facts at home.  Now is the time we are expecting all 2nd graders to be able to fluently add and subtracts numbers to 20.  There are several sites on this blog that you can use to help your child. Flash cards also are great!

Science:  We began our unit on the sun, moon, and stars.  We learned all about our closest star, the sun, as well as star patterns and characteristics.
