Mid-Week Update...

Hi Parents and Students,

We've been exercising our brains during our math problem solving time at school. Check out the tricky question below. 2nd Graders, if you can work it out all by yourself, show how you got your answer, and bring it to me on or before Wednesday, October 1st, you will earn a trip to the prize box! Good luck...

Sam had some bubblegum in his desk. Julie had twice as many pieces as Sam. Katie had two more pieces than Julie. Katie had 10 pieces in her desk. How many pieces did Sam have?

Parents, here are some CONVERSATION STARTERS to help you find out all about our school week...
*ask your child what body part Leslie decided was useless in our book, Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar
*ask your child who Sequoyah was and what his contribution was
*ask your child to tell you about the chapter book they are reading for their independent title during guided reading groups...can they tell you the characters, setting, and plot?
*visit the Destiny site together (you can get to this site from our school web page) and pick out some books together that interest your child...he/she learned how to perform a search on Destiny during our lesson this week!
