10-29-08 Update...

Hi Parents and Students,

Thank you for taking time to visit and LEARN today! I hope you are working on your informational paper related to the election. Remember, you can choose any person on the ballot and write about them, or choose your own topic about this historical election! Check out the conversation starters below to help foster discussions about our day...

*Ask your child about Gwyn Thomas, Martine's grandmother in our chapter book, The White Giraffe. Would he/she like to live with her? Why or why not?
*Ask your child to explain the two things that friction can do. Ask your child how the idea of friction relates to brakes on a bike.
*Can your child name at least three forms of energy? Explain some sources of these forms. (example: Heat is a form of energy. Fire can be a source of heat.)
*Ask your child to name the five parts of a letter and show you the hand motion that helps us remember these parts. Can they also tell you where the commas go?
*What are the nonfiction text features that help us use a nonfiction book? (table of contents, glossary, index, captions, photographs, labels, headings)

We learned how to write a letter this week, making sure to include the essential parts. A great at-home writing activity would be to write a letter to someone and mail it! Maybe you could tell them about our exciting chapter book, The White Giraffe!

Have a great week!
-Mrs. Wadsworth
