Hi Parents and Students,
Spring Break is only two and a half weeks away! We are in our final quarter of school and are almost ready for Third Grade! Parents, please pay close attention to the work that your child is bringing home in their blue folders. You will notice CRCT practice work coming home. We check this work in class together and I work closely with students who are not understanding the concepts as we review. You have an opportunity with these review papers to really focus in and help your child with the concepts that are still causing trouble for him or her. You can use the web addresses I provided for you two weeks ago as a resource, or you can do a google search on the specific skill that your child needs additional help in. I'll quote Mrs. Pepper in regards to the CRCT..."Yes, I am teaching the test! The test comes directly from our county and state standards!" In other words, all of the questions on the test will be what your child has been responsible for learning this year.
Dinner Conversation Starters...
*Ask your child who their favorite "caretaker" of Edward has been from our book The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Can he/she tell you specific detail about Edward's time with this caretaker?
*Ask your child which way they prefer to solve "making change" problems. The two ways are to take away the dollar sign and decimal and solve using regular subtraction, or to "count up" from the amount of the item to the amount of money paid. Practice a few problems!
*Ask your child to define the following terms...income, opportunity costs (i.e. the opportunity cost of choosing to buy a video game instead of a scooter with your allowance is you are giving up fun time riding the scooter), producer, consumer.
*Tell your child all about the different ways you have earned an "income" in your life. We began our economics unit and discussions about the "real world" application of what these terms mean will really help your child understand these new concepts!
Students, check out the poll below and answer the question!
