October 14th Update...The Abbreviated Version!

Hello Parents,

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read about what has been happening in the fabulous Room 205!  It's going to be a short one this week, as I am busily preparing for report cards and conferences next week. Next week, I will give a more detailed update of what we've been studying academically.  Please read over the Classroom News section carefully, as there is some information about conferences and upcoming important dates.  See you next week! (Parents, check out the extra credit opportunity for your child below!  Please read ALL the directions carefully...I'm a stickler for details when it comes to EXTRA CREDIT!)

Classroom News and Announcements...

To help conferences run as smoothly as possible next week, please let me know if you will not be able to make the scheduled time.  With each conference only being 20 minutes,  I'll have to stay on a really tight schedule to get all the information to you that I would like. I will not be able to start any conferences late, unfortunately.

The children will be dismissed two hours early all next week.  Please make any dismissal changes in writing.

Our lunch time next week will be 10:20-10:50 due to Early Release.  Please plan accordingly if you are visiting for lunch.

Thank you to Mrs. Tovar and Mrs. Henry for all the extra effort they put in to make my birthday so special. And thank you for helping out as our AR parents this week also!

Congratulations to Maya Mizerek for being chosen as this week's Teacher's Helper! Way to go on that great behavior, Maya!

Classroom Needs...Okay, first graders are really hard on recess toys! Since the beginning of the year, we have either lost or broken three jumpropes, three playground balls, one lacrosse set, one science kit, and three tennis balls.  I am bringing some more things from home, but we would love any donations of playground toys.  We are great with used toys...as I have found they probably won't last long!

Extra Credit Opportunity...Due Friday, October 22. You will be handsomely rewarded for your efforts!
We read the book Where the Wild Things Are in class this week.  The main character, Max, gets in trouble and gets sent to his room.  Write about a time YOU got into trouble!  Follow ALL the steps below for a special surprise...
1.  Brainstorm a list of times you got into trouble on a piece of paper (think of at least four different times!)...Choose ONE to write about.
2. Organize this event on a piece of paper with phrases to help you remember all the details. Follow the guidelines we talked about for what a personal narrative should include  (Who was with you? Where were you? When was it?  What happened first? Next? After that?  In the end?)
3.  Use this organizer to write a MINIMUM ten sentence paragraph about your experience.
4. Have a parent help you edit and revise your story to make it even better.
5. Rewrite or type the story. Make sure you include an underlined and capitalized title and indent your first word.
6.  Draw and color an illustration to match your story.
7. ALL work including typing MUST be completed by YOU! (Of course, parents may HELP)
8. ALL work (brainstorming list, organizer, rough draft, and final copy must be turned in to earn the reward.
