Okay, so this update is a few days late! Sorry about that...make sure you check out the classroom news section below to keep up to date on all the classroom and school happenings. I hope everyone is enjoying their time off! Check out below to see what we did in class last week...
Phonics/Grammar: We learned the three most common spelling patterns of the long u sound. We created a chart to help us remember these spellings. We cut apart words and categorized them into long and short u words. We also reviewed all the long vowel spelling patterns. We practiced alphabetizing words to the third letter and we worked on turning phrases into complete sentences. We identified these phrases as subject or predicate.
Reading: We worked in small groups to identify facts and opinions in nonfiction texts. We also worked on identifying the main idea from a book and writing supporting ideas in an organizer. We read several chapters out of our read aloud book, Clementine. We worked in our reading response journal to answer comprehension questions.
Science: We learned all about the parts of a plant and the plant life cycle. We planted lima beans and discussed the basic needs of a plant. We worked in our "plant journal" to show what we have learned about this topic.
Classroom News...
Congratulations to Blake Petty for being chosen as the week's Teacher's Helper! Way to go on that awesome behavior, Blake!
Congratulations to those who completed 360 minutes of reading since late January! Your name was entered in the Six Flags reading contest and you will be receiving a free six flags theme park ticket! Parents, this information was taken from your child's reading log, as stated in my January blog news. Check your child's reading log...If there is a blue star, your child will be receiving a ticket! Sorry, no late entries will be accepted.
An email went out earlier this week about signing up for AR reading to the students. Please check with Mrs. Henry if you are interested and did not see the email. Also, remember that our Target day is Wednesday. If your child is in Target, you may want to choose Tuesday or Thursday to come in.
Enjoy your week off and I'll see all my sweet children back at school on Monday!
