Dear Parents,
I hope your calendars are marked for our class camp out at the Abrams, October 19th! We are going to have a great night. The whole family is invited! Check out below to find out what we've done this week...
Phonics/Grammar: This week, we began diagramming sentences, identifying the subject and predicate. This should really help the students to be able to tell when a sentence is incomplete or a run-on sentence. We worked with our book buddies on a writing activity, focusing on the subject/predicate. We also played several games to prepare for our spelling cumulative test. By the way, the kids did AWESOME! The class average was 95%!
Reading: We did what is called a "close reading" of the story, A Drop Around the World. We looked at specific passages of this very challenging story and pulled out phrases to work on decomposing their meaning. The kids did wonderful! I love to see the deep thinking they showed me. We began our third book in the Series of Unfortunate Events, The Wide Window. We completed a comprehension activity showing the detailed setting of this story as well as answering comprehension questions on the 2nd chapter.
Math: We completed our addition and subtraction strategies unit. We reviewed the various ways we can show our computation. We focused specifically on answering word problems.
Science: We completed our unit on the three states of matter. We read an informational paragraph and answered questions (research) and we made a flip book.
News...
Parent/Teacher conference letters will come home on Wednesday. Let me know if you absolutely cannot make your time. With 25 parents to meet with, my schedule is really tight, but I will try to accommodate you if I can.
Our performing arts trip is on October 18th. Remember to send your child's sack lunch from home in disposable bags/containers. If your child is buying from school, that will be taken care of.
