Hi Bloggers,
Thanks for visiting today and checking out the information on our page. I'll give a brief synopsis of our week. Be sure to check out the bottom of the page for a "heads-up" on an upcoming assignment! This week in class, we finished our geometry unit on solid shapes. We learned all about edges, faces, angles, and vertexes found on various figures. We also reviewed the content for the past nine weeks and took our very important Benchmark Test in Math. I will be sharing the results with parents at our conference in January. I also administered several assessments to show progress in the areas of phonetic awareness and spelling rules. In Language Arts, we completed the chapter book The Chocolate Touch. We also read the book King Midas and the Golden Touch and compared and contrasted the two stories. We learned about distinguishing between plural and possessive nouns and we played a game on our white boards to practice this. In Social Studies, we completed our unit on Economics. In Health, we learned ways to keep our bodies strong and at the same time reviewed our very important comprehension strategies as we worked on a reading passage (reading the headings, highlighting answers in the passage before answering, reading all answers before choosing the best one, and eliminating any impossible choices). In addition to this, we did manage to have lots of special fun activities! I hope everyone enjoyed them; we will be speeding right along when the new year begins, so get ready!
When we return to school on Tuesday, January 6th, we'll be working with the fabulous children's story Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. As a culminating activity for this piece of literature, the children will be expected to give a mock weather report, following the examples given in the story. If you are familiar with this book, there is some very peculiar weather phenomenas that happen in this town! This should be fun and I can't wait to see the children's creativity!
I hope you and your loved ones have a wonderful and restful holiday this season! I will miss seeing my bright and smiling 2nd graders during this break! I look forward to seeing everyone back in January. Be on the lookout for conference letters in January.
